Ready to Build?
Tim Gottschalk
Hill Hollow Design was created to allow "you" to put together a Pontoon houseboat that’s affordable, and eliminate a lot of the guesswork associated with building your own houseboat. So if you have been thinking of building your own houseboat, but were not sure where to start, the folks at Hill Hollow can probably help you out. They provide the pontoons. Then depending on the size of the boat you want, and to what level you want to be involved, you control its cost and the time it’ll take to put it together. Hill Hollow’s pontoons are fabricated of steel and are designed specifically for hard use. They feature 12 gauge steel with blank tails and finished noses completely welded, proof pressure tested, primed and painted. 24" sq pontoons are 15’ long. 30" sq pontoons are available in three lengths - 23’, 29’ and 35’. The 36" sq pontoon comes in four lengths - 41’, 47’, 53’ and 59’. The boats they build for the Colorado State
Park System are intentionally run up on the concrete launch ramps for loading and unloading. This durability also equates to longevity. Some features include:Tuff bow for beaching Low drag bow design eliminating water compression Multiple water tight compartments Elimination of lengthwise welds below the waterline Internal bracing for rigidity Easy to repair Easy to maintain The Pontoons are also connected to each other with a steel floor joist system that supports a ¾" plywood deck and on the smaller models is covered with a marine grade carpet. If you are not sure where to go for all your other supplies (railings, canopies, support structures, etc) Hill Hollow can supply these items as well. If they can’t make it, they can point you to one of their many suppliers who can help with any unique needs you may encounter.
HomeBuilt Houseboat With prices as low as $4,835.00 these projects are both exciting and realistic for the entire family to undertake. You can also choose a “Do it ALL yourself” package for as little as $360.This includes step-by-step drawings that allow you to fabricate the pontoons yourself. For the more experienced craftsman who has the time to donate to a grandeur endeavor, take a look at their larger models that go all the way up to 60’ long. There are many houseboat interiors to choose from and when combined with their larger kits will give you that houseboat you’ve always dreamed of having at a price you can afford.
Their Standard Kit includes two pontoons with outboard motor mounts and finished noses, completely welded, proof pressure tested and painted. Cut to length steel floor joists and perimeter bump rail, ¾" plywood decking, marine grade carpet and fasteners. Their Deluxe Kit includes the same deck materials as the Standard Kit, but they add a 4’ raised flooring section covered with ¾" AC plywood for under the cabin. Contact: Hill Hollow Design
