I live in the South Jersey area right outside of Philadelphia and I'm seriously considering a houseboat as a living option.  I'm 28, I have a career in this area but I can't afford to move out of my folks place.  The cost of living is outrageous here.  I've been looking at a 50' Catamaran Cruiser's as another option of living.  Unfortunately, I'm having one hell of a time finding a place to live.  The closest place I can find is over an hour away.  Is anyone aware of a place in the Philadelphia area that would accept a live aboard?

I live in South Jersey, and the only place anywhere in the area that I know of for sure, where you can live aboard a houseboat, is Sea Village on the Margate Bridge Causeway, outside of Atlantic City.  And yes, you're right, it's a little over an hour to get to Phila. from there.  Another place you can check is in the Riverside area in NJ, along the Delaware River.  Check with the different marinas in that area.  A while back ('70's or '80's), I knew two different people who lived on houseboats along there but I can't remember the name of the marina.  As I recall, it was sort of a ramshackle boat yard.  You never know, it may not even exist any more...  But it wouldn't hurt to take a Saturday or Sunday drive and check out the area.

I have checked Riverside Marina and they no longer accept liveaboards and neither does Dredge Harbor.  The other place I'm trying to look into is in Philadelphia called Pier 5 Marina.  I know there are houseboats there but I haven't been able to find a legit phone number for it.

The marinas here in Pensacola, FL just started allowing live aboards again. Hurricane Ivan, 09/16/04 took all marinas but one away. When they started coming back, not one allowed live aboards. Some persons did so however, silently.

But now many marinas are back on line, so now they all have room for boats and now allow live aboards again.

Supply and demand.

Hey, how about moving??

I know of a great marina with great rates on the Tenn Tom. It is called "Pirates" something or another and it is around Pickensville. There are great people there.
