Transom rot 2 Years, 1 Month ago

I inherited a Nautiline 43 from my dad recently. He repaired the starboard side hump but never started or even looked into the engine room where I found the rot. The boat is on the Toledo Bend res. where there's no close by repairshops or even haulouts, I can however get a trailer to haulout at my marina (Huxley). So I have 2 questions, 1 can I even safely run the 2 big block motors at displacement speeds safely without sinking the boat & 2 can a carpenter/housebuilder build a new transom and any suggestion on information on how to do it. &nb sp;
Thanks

1. Maybe with care if you have Vee Drives.
2. This is a pretty straight forward labor intensive situation. It's almost a 100% probability that the engine stringers and bulkhead are gone also. Usually you replace all of the above at the same time. This used to be a $5000 job, don't have a clue as to what it is today.
Unless shed kept old Nautilines develop rot in a lot of other places such as roof, side decks, hatches, window openings etc.
Strongly suggest you get a condition survey prior to any extensive investment. Might be time to put her to bed as its easy to invest WAY more in repairs than the boat is worth. OLD HOUSEBOATER38956.6802893519

Hello, PirateBest, if you want to email me at

, I can tell you how I did the transom on my nautaline this summer. My boat has twin V-Drives and wasn't all that bad. If you are handy with a jigsaw, fiberglas and mat then it is labor intensive as Old Houseboater suggest, but not the end of the world. If your boat has outdrives I may not be of much help. Good luck anyhow.
