The value here is that someone with, what some of us consider a reckless nature, chose to disagree with your advice and thru many posts articulated his thoughts and views.

Whether we agree or not, the topic provided multiple opinions from a number of members. Being a sticky topic it will be read by many people. Hopefully this will instill caution, promote discussion and provide pertinant guidance to the viewers.

Captain please keep us up to date. Even though many of us don't agree with you we are interested in what you are doing and wish you luck.

And yes, if you get in trouble we will send the Coasties to pick you up.

I have decided that you are all correct. you have to have the right equipment for the job. if potential conditions could be ten foot waves then you should buy a vessel that can handle it.
in that spirit I am trading the caddy in for a M1A1 tank.

cannot be too safe ya know.

kidding.

I will keep ya all informed on my progress.

My boat is still being fitted. I decided a ways back to have get it all jazzed up prior to the long trip and it is taking a while. I am probably not going to get the boat moving South till the end of the month.

New Kitchen, wood floors, wall coverings, king size bed, and etc. - I will post some pictures when it is done.

I put a jackplate on the motor and they are putting in the VHF, GPS, and etc etc. New Bottom paint.

I'm having about four coats of Micron 66 put on the hulls. I read the manufacturers website. They say no to Micron for fresh water. Anyone know why they do this? I was thinking that it was because it was ineffective against freshwater gunk, but then I thought maybe it was because fresh water might take the power out of the paint for some chemical reason. Anyone know what the deal is??

Interlux Micron 66 is _base_d on an advanced self-polishing copolymer technology that reacts with salt water in a controlled way. The Biolux SPC technology creates a controlled chemical reaction release of biocides, providing excellent protection for at least two seasons. Micron 66 is a fantastic bottom paint in salt water environments but do not use in fresh water. What happens is the Salt controls the reaction and the fresh water does not. resultr is is will not work in fresh water. like a elactrasan will not work without salt.

OK - that is OK then. It will work in Salt but not be damaged with an occasional trip up a freshwater river. Is that about right?
