That seems to be a seriously high price for a River Queen.......most in "good shape" seem to be asking through brokers around $30K (will take offers) and the NADA books quote $10 -15K, maybe somewhat more if in supurb shape. Nice layout though.

Hi Guys: I have been nosing around on other sites as well (Chris Craft Roamer for one) and am picking up a sense that a lot of surveyors who audio sound (I think that's the term) the hulls of steel boats (River Queens, Roamers, etc) seem to miss serious corrosion in these hulls and, in the case of River Queens, the keel.
What's going on? Are some of these surveyors just inept, is the equipment they use not capable of detecting corrosion under multiple coats of bottom paint or is there another reason? When I had that steel canal cruised in Holland the Dutch seemed to have little or no trouble with this issue. Of course they specialize in building steel boats so the surveyors are experienced with the material. Any opinions, advice? Cheers, Celt

There are not many steel boats to survey and few surveyors who have extensive experence in steel.

Hi Old Houseboater:
Thanks for the reply. I guess you are right, in the US all they survey are fiberglas pleasure boats.....I'd have to get a surveyer who specializes in commercial vessels and hope he can deal with yacht systems as well.
By the way I misquoted you on the other thread when I asked Pirate what he thought a fair price for a 40' River Queen in decent shape would be. I thought you had sold your pristine RQ for $19K in 1991 instead of $21K. I also thought he might have an idea on price since I saw somewhwere he used to be or still is a boat broker. The asking prices are about 50% or more over the NADA book prices. I haven't been able to check the BUC prices as yet.
Cheers,
Celt

My husband and I recently bought a 1966 riverqueen 38 ft. for 9,500 and we want to restore it. It is in pretty good shape already. We are interested in what and where to find the material for the outside - both sides and upper deck. Any ideas?

The cabin on a 1966 is covered with "Nautilux" vynil over plywood. You reeeaaaalllllyyy took on a project.
Note: You already have full value or more invested in the boat. You will not increase the value no matter how much money you put in it so be careful. Make sure the hull is in good enough condition to invest your time and money. OLD HOUSEBOATER38868.8114236111
