What is the best type of hual for a house boat to use/live on for Ocean use. I scuba dive and we are planning on moving to Florida from California and have thought about going through the Panama Cannel to get there. my wife likes the layout and space usage of house boat designs, but I am concerned about handling in swells.
Are there any house boat builders that make an "Ocean worthy" boat?

Closest thing is a pluckabaum and it would never make it the length of the Mexican coast. Think about 12 to 20 fters hitting you and the windows go boat then goes one way. DOWN Gets real rough atround there. Buy a yacht or Trawler with plenty of freeboard. Motorsailer would also work.

There are also many Real Pirates out there who would find you easy pickings on a Houseboat. They pray on pleasure craft coming out of the canal. They wait a day or so and pounce. You would have to hug the Coast and you would either be taken by the Sea or the Pirates.
