toilet-head question 4 Years ago Karma: 0
hi, I will be moving into my riverqueen in Jan, right now it has a
normal sized hand pump marine head in it, you know small, with an
even smaller _base_, I'm a larger guy, 6'3 280 pounds, so I don't like
the idea of having such a small head, I have seen several electric
heads that look a lot like household toilets without the water tank
behind it, however the cheapest i've seen these is around 5 to 600
bucks. does anyone know where i can find one cheaper, it doesnt
have to be a brand name. just a heavy duty toilet, Used is ok, as
long as its clean and can be shipped or picked up without a major
problem.

thank you

You won't find an electric marine toilet for less than about $400. There are used ones on eBay for less, but the odds of getting one in decent working condition are very slim....it could cost you more to put into good condition than a new one--IF you can even still get parts. Most of the toilets on eBay that go cheap are so old that parts aren't even available any more.

The best "bang for the buck" is the Raritan SeaEra...specify the "household" size bowl. The best prices I've seen are from boatfix.com or Fore and Aft Marine...around $400.

Bite the bullet and buy a new one...'cuz the last thing you need is a toilet that doesn't work.

hello, i've been doing some research, and i have found a lot of info
raritan's lectra/san, but i am unable to find any other uscg type one
msg, I was hoping someone on the list could guide me in a direction,
perhaps something that is a little cheaper, and works without the use
of salt water. if they all work with salt, thats ok as i can alway put
salt in the bowl. but it would be nice to know if there are other
options outsite raritan.

thank you

I'm having the same problem, Jason...I tried to move all the replies to your msd question here to your new thread, and lost a couple of things too. I've emailed Tim (administrator) to help us get it straightened out.

Meanwhile, I THINK that between the two threads, you have the answers you need...if not, stand by till Tim can get the two topics sorted out before posting any more questions?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay. I was out yesterday. I looked for lost posts and cannot find them.

If you can give me some more details...or just repost.

peghall, I have looked at info for the SeaEra, my concern is the small
footprint and the neck that goes to the footprint, as i am a larger
man, 6'3 280 pounds, I am worried that in a year or so. i'll get up
one late night to use the head, and I'll end up on the floor covered
with water, because the small _base_ broke. do you know what it is
rated for, weight wise? and is there a way to help support it? I know
it sounds odd, but having a good head is the number one priority, but
it also has to be afordable.

has anyone heard of anyone converting a household toilet into a
marine head? I know many home toilets can be made to work with
little water.

Thank you
Jason Miller

There is no household toilet that can use less than 1.5' gal of flush water, which will either fill up a holding tank VERY fast or exceed the maximum of 1 gal/flush that a Lectra/San or PuraSan can accept at a time. Nor is there any way to fit a household toilet to use raw (sea, lake, river) water...which means it would also put a strain your fresh water supply. That could become a real problem in the winter if the marina turns off the dock water to protect it from a hard freeze...which they do.

I don't think you have to worry about the SeaEra collapsing under you...I've never heard of it collapsing under anyone. However, you might also look at the Crown or Crown II. And you might want to discuss it with tech support at Raritan. 800-352-5630 x 6.
