I have been reading this discussion for some time now and thought I would add my 2 cents. I am 20 miles away from Capn Jeff so I thought I would look at his boat. It turns out I had actually seen it in the yard over the previous winter. The first time I saw it, I thought it was an original outboard configuration. The conversion is first rate all the way. I recently stopped by and introduced myself and got a tour of the boat. I really like the fact that the outboards are tilted up and out of the water when docked. There is absolutely nothing in the water. I would have to assume his performance statistics are correct. Acording to one website I found the boat weight is 13000 lbs. That is with twin chrysler v drives. I know those Hondas weigh less than that set up. It truely is a great looking setup. The discussion was started about should I convert and I think the correct answer is if it makes sense to do it. I for one love my twin v drives and wouldn't change that for the world. However the outboards are nice. Old school outboards were not 4 strokes and I would never put an old outboard on anything like a big houseboat. Like I said just my 2 cents.
