My wife and I are considering the purchase of a 50' 1970 river Queen houseboat.

We have never owned a boat before but have started a family and like the idea of summers spent together on the St. Croix river in Minnesota. We also like the classics, yet understand that they may be a lot more work.

Just wondering if there are any good resources for first time buyers or if there is anything else we should know before hand.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks.

David

RIVERQUEENS WERE GREAT BOATS IN THEIR TIME. HOWEVER THEY WERE BUILT OF STEEL AND TENDED TO RUST OUT FROM THE INSIDE OUT. GET A SURVEY PAYING PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE BOTTOM, CANOPY AND ROOF STRUCTURES. IF YOUR HANDY AND CAN WELD THEY MAKE GREAT PROJECT BOATS. THEY WERE ONE OF THE STRONGEST BOATS OUT THERE. WE OWNED 3 OF THEM.

We have a 1969 37 foot River Queen on the St. Croix River located in Afton Mn. I have grown up on this boat as my Father bought it new in 1969. We still use the boat and it is still in good condition. We have done a lot of work through the years keeping the boat up. It does take alot of time. You better like to paint because it is a continuous thing, every few years. These boats are a labor of love. There is always somthing to fix or re do. For me it is worth it, however I am quite handy with mechanical and electrical things. This may not be the case for everyone, you will have to decide for yourself. Feel free to email me, I live in Hudson WI.

Hello . I just purchased a 1969 RQ flybridge 36 footer. Can you help me with an owners manual, photos etc... The boat is a project and in need of a retrofit from top to bottom.
