Hello,
First I would have to ask if you know what drives you have? What engine are you useing. What year and size is you RQ? Lastly, what area do you or should I say boat live in?
Let's start there... mnw : )

ALMOST ALL RIVERQUEENS (I OWNED 3) WERE EQUIPPED WITH DANA OUTDRIVES AND CHRYSLER ENGINES. THIS UNIT LATER EVOLVED INTO THE CHRYSLER DRIVE/90. (NICER LOOKING HOUSING, SAME INTERNAL CONFIGURATION.) PARTS AND MANUALS ARE AVAILABLE FROM MARYSVILLE MARINE. THESE UNITS WERE COMMON FROM MID 60s TO EARLY 70s ON MANY HOUSEBOATS INCLUDING RQ, NAUTALINE, GIBSON, SEA GOING ETC.

MODEL 90S HAD SPLINED PROP SHAFT, MODEL 91 HAD TAPER. MODEL 80/81 DIDN'T HAVE INTERNAL SHIFT, USED WARNER OR PARAGON GEARS FOR SHIFTING. VERY RARE, USED ON SOME EARLY LARGE NAUTALINES BEFORE BIG MERCRUISER DRIVE WAS AVAILABLE.

THESE UNITS ARE PROBABLY SOME OF THE TOUGHEST UNITS EVER BUILT. DUE TO THEIR UNIQUE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH SETUP THEY ARE THE ONLY UNIT THAT DOESN'T CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING. THIS IS PART OF THE REASON FOR THEIR LONGEVITY.

IF THE CLUTCH OPERATION AND SPRING _link_ IN THE SHIFT MECHANISM IS MAINTAINED PROPERLY THEY WILL ALMOST LAST FOREVER.

THEY HAD 3 PROBLEMS WHICH WERE CHRONIC.

RATS LOVE TO EAT THE BOOTS AND THE SPLINES ON THE CONNECTING SHAFT WEAR AWAY RAPIDLY IF NOT NOT PROPERLY LUBRICATED WHEN ASSEMBLED. (VERY FINE SPLINE) I ALWAYS USED MOLY GREASE AND DIDNT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. THE 3RD PROBLEM IS THAT THE CLUTCH DRIVEN DISK WOULD STICK TO THE PRESSURE PLATE OR FLYWHEEL IF NOT USED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. THIS RESULTS IN A CLUTCH "NO RELEASE" CONDITION AND YOU WILL GET A HECK OF A CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING.

NOT MANY PEOPLE ARE FAMILIAR WITH THESE UNITS TODAY. ESPECIALLY WHERE THE CLUTCH MECHANISM IS CONCERNED. HOWEVER, THEY ARE SIMPLE, ROBUST, AND NOT TOUGH TO REPAIR. IT WOULD BE BEST TO OBTAIN AND FURNISH THE REPAIR MANUAL TO YOUR MECHANIC.

NOTE: THE TAPER PINS THAT HOLD TILT HOUSING PINS ARE DRIVEN IN FROM THE TOP!!!

YOU CAN EMAIL ME IF YOU NEED MORE INFO.

BEST OF LUCK nn

You can get them rebuilt in Burns Ditch, In. I do not know the name of the marina, but that is where I am taking mine this winter. The guy used to work for River Queen.

Old houseboater, I need to know how to make sure every thing is adjusted correctly.. I understand that they need to be adjusted correctly, if not they tend to eat teh dog gear?

how do you get a hold of Marysville Marine?

Are the gears in the 60's the same as the 80's and 90's?

I WOULD SUGGEST YOU OBTAIN THE MANUAL. IT GIVES DIMENSIONS ETC.

MOST PROBLEMS START WHEN THE CLUTCH STOPS WORKING. MANY OWNERS DON'T EVEN KNOW THE CLUTCH EXISTS AS WELL AS A LOT OF MECHANICS.

A TIP: WE USED TO HELI-ARC WELD UP THE WORN TIPS OF THE DOG AND GEAR AND REGRIND THEM WITH A 3 DEGREE POSITIVE ANGLE. YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING AND I DON'T RECOMMEND IT BUT WHEN YOUR YOUNG AND POOR YOU GOTTA DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO. (THE WELDER WAS A TRUE ARTIST) DOES ANYONE STILL DO GOVERNMENT JOBS?

I'VE NEVER SEEN A 60, DON'T KNOW.

THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR SOURCE. PLEASE SHARE IT WITH US WHEN YOU FIND OUT.

Hi,

I had both of my dana 80 drives rebuilt up at tower marine at the end of last year. They worked perfectly. It was really nice to have both engines and drives working.

HOW CAN YOU TELL WHAT OUT DRIVE YOU HAVE? I KNOW THAT THE SHIFTING CABLES ARE ON THE OUTSIDE AND MOST PEOPLE SAY I HAVE AN OLD DANA. ALSO MY ENGAGEMENT IS KINDA RUFF. MY BOAT SAT FOR TWO YEARS. HOW CAN YOU TELL IF THE CLUTCH SHIFT MEC. IS STICKING?
