Carlcraft was started in 1976 around August, Hoot had just left Gibson fiberglass after losing a power struggle with two minority stockholders Brummett and Shaw, hoot had 49% they together had 51%. I helped him get things going. He built a building in Goodletsville, TN. where Gibson was located a few blocks away at 212 e Cedar St. He got the first boat mold made but did not have the capitol to build a boat. I sold the boat before it was built to Dave Wachtel and collected 50% of the sales price by discounting it considerably. We got the boat finished but did not have struts, shafts or rudders. I went to Gibson as I was still a dealer and got all of the items needed. We delivered the boat and I sold the next 12 in rapid succession mostly to Gibson customers. My dealership was canceled when I refused a boat that had been on order but accepted a 50 ft. We sold Carlcrafts as fast as he could build them. I left in 1980 and Later about 1982, his building burned and he started Fiberglas specialists, Inc. He then started building C-Yachts. He built them in 32 ft and 52 ft models. He called me and I was set to start selling in Florida but he closed the doors before that happened. The 57 ft was introduced in 1977 I have a picture of it. I sold it to Bill Williams who was docked at my marina. They had a two piece keel and as the boat aged it gave problems by cracking at the engine bulkhead. The only difference in a 37 and 43 Carlcraft and a Gibson was a 2x4 on the transom.
