If the lift is in decent shape you should have no trouble. Be sure and get straps under bulkheads. The 15 ton will actually lift 33,000 safely. saftty margin. Also they round the figure off , it is more than likely certified for 31000 to 32,000 LBS

The lift is not rated. I live in Sparrows point MD. We had at one time the largest steel plant in the world http://www.ce.jhu.edu/mdcive/bethlehem.htmMy lift was built in the late fifties early sixtys by the local steel workers with steel from Sparrows point steel. It was originally built to lift 12 tons and upgraded to lift 15 tons. I could start a new thread and take some photos?

I love this post, it has led me to trust my own judgement. The 1971 35' Burns that I just bought 2 weeks ago is the first houseboat that I have owned after 2 cruisers.. Being just 31 years old I have dabbled into many things, Built Street Rods, Custom Motorcycles and do custom paint on the side. I have seen and completed a bunch of fiberglass work on these street rods and know what is crap and what is structurally sound.
When I saw this boat for sale I looked it all over. I did not know anything about BurnsCraft boats. I went so far as to put on my dive gear and go look at the bottom. I opened all the hatches to look at the inside of the hull as best as I could and could tell that this was a VERY WELL built boat. You can actually tell fiberglass that has been hand laid with the air pockets rolled out. It was more than I wanted to spend but my wife, kids and me loved the boat and it was in a slip 4 down from the cruiser that I just sold! Sounds like I have made a good $20,000 investment.
Thanks for the info happy houseboating
Brad

Woodboat,if your lift started out as a 12 ton and was upgraded to a 15 ton it was rated. You should be able to lift the Burns with a lot left. Drain water and try and not have a full load of fuel;.

Mr. Burns,
My condolences on the passing of your brother and thank you for the history lesson.
I own (and sometimes operate) a 1983 Burns Craft aft cabin motor yacht. Over the last several years I have seen seven of the 40' motor yachts and two of the 40' convertible on the brokerage market as well as both of the 48' motor yachts. Could you shed some light on how many of the 40' motoryacht and convertibles were built?
Also, I have heard brokers state that the 40 & 48 had some connection to Viking Yacht. Is that correct? If so, could you provide some more information about the Viking connection?
Thanks for your previous post. I hope you will be able to reply.

Mr. Plunkett,
Thank you so very much for your post and photo. I love to hear from folks about Burns-Craft. I do not recall the exact number of 40 and 48 Motors Yachts. There were several. As to the relation between Burns-Craft and Viking. There was no relationship, but we did have a good, friendly relationship with Mr. Bill Healey, founder and president of Viking. He was a great boat builder. Once again thanks for the post and photo. I greatly appreciate any Burns-Craft photos to add to my history book of Burns-Craft.

Mr. Burns - as the proud owner of a '78 37' convertible sedan, which we have owned for about 15 years, we are thrilled to get a peek into the history and family that created this wonderful boat.
It is as much our home as our one on land, and has brought untold hours of pleasure, adventure and satisfaction to our family, now including grandkids.
When I wake up with the sun in my face, shining thru the hatch, I cannot believe the good fortune that allowed me to get this boat.
You folks built a very heavy, high quality boat.
