Where are the tanks suppose to be? 2 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,
My name is Don. I have a client that just bought a 43' Nautaline that
has been gutted. He is planning on redoing the interior, but he wants
me to do the tankage first. I want to make sure I keep any ballist
issues in mind(normally a big issue on power & sail boats). If anyone
could help to enlighten me on where the tanks are normally located I
would appreciate it.
Thank You,
Don Rock

In a step-down houseboat, because there is no bilge, water and waste
tanks are often located under beds. Fuel tank(s) at the forward
end of the engine compartment.

The weight of galley appliances (stove, fridge, sink etc) and bathroom
fixtures (sink, tub, toilet) is likely to be more critcal than that of
40-50 gallon water and waste tanks.

I'll be glad to help spec out the plumbing and tank locations for you/him.

I have a 100 gallon waste tank and an 80 gallon freshwater tank. At approximately 8 lbs. per gallon that is a potential when full(not often) of 1440 lbs. plus the weight of the tanks. All my appliances put together do not weigh that much. My tanks are centered over the keel from midships back to firewall to engine compartment but I have a Gibson with a shallow bilge below the floor. Peggy generally knows about these things and you should rely on her call.
