For 2005, Raritan has re-done the Purasan system to make it able to be used with nearly all marine toilets. There are three basic requirements: 1) the head to which it will be connected must have a positive pump on the discharge side. It cannot be used with porta-potties, marine traveler toilets, recirculating toilets, jet flush or Galley Maid toilets. 2) the boat must have a pressure water system installed on it. 3) The dispenser canister must be able to be mounted a minimum of 15" above the actual treatment box. This isn't usually a problem on houseboats that have _base_ments, but it can be tenuous on cruising boats.

It can even be used together with many manual toilets, as long as the head has a piston or diaphragm pump.

Great I've always liked the PuraSan because of its low current draw and not having to mess with salt tanks. Also like its ability to be used in fresh or salt water.

Good Move

Glad to hear from you Vic, wander around this way more often.

OHB: I forgot to mention that - it can be used in either salt water or fresh water - thanks for bringing that up. I'll be lurking around this Forum a little more often, time permitting. I used to be on the old Forum fairly often - I used the name "Head Master" - just to "dig" Peggie a little... - she's the "Head Mistress," on another Forum

Did you make it to the Lousiville HB show? I was hoping to have you stop by and say Hi...

One correction on the new Purasan issue - if you have a raw water-flushing, electric macerating toilet, you don't need a pressurized water system on the boat. But if you have a manual toilet or an electric toilet that flushes with pressurized fresh water, you will need pressure water on the boat.

Rod, I know what you're saying about your mother restricting your movement. I had both my mother and an aunt living with my wife and I until 2002, when my mother passed away and my aunt had to go into a home - my aunt has Alzheimer's and my wife hasn't been well for years, so it became too much for her to handle. Then, also in 2002, my father-in-law passed away and my mother-in-law came to live with us. So two went out, and a new one came in. But my mother-in-law and I get along famously and she has been a tremendous help to both of us during my wife's more recent physical problems. She's 77 but very spry, and goes nearly everywhere with us - she's actually in better physical shape than her daughter! My aunt is still alive, in the nursing home, and is in reasonable physical condition - but her mind...., whew! She doesn't even know me any more, but is glad to have a visitor and is pleasant and cheerful when I come to visit, even though she has no idea who I am.

Now that I've gotten way off the subject I'll digress a little more; I have another aunt who is in an assisted-living center and I went to visit her this past weekend. She'll be 97 in July, if she makes it that far - she'll likely make it to 110! But I had to laugh, she commented that the, "old lady" in the next room had a fall the night before and had to be taken to the hospital. The woman in the next room is 82!
