what size engine?? 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 0

Need some help.
What would be the minimum horse power for 45'x30"D. pontoon houseboat to produce 8-10mph @say 50-60% throttle?

would 2 outboard engines be moore efficient than 1 engine ie. 2-30hps vrs 1-60hp??

Which type hull is the most fuel efficient at 10mph+-pontoor/catamaran or conventional shallow draft semi-V ?

Interest is, most mpg @ 8-12mph.

2 engines are better from a reliability/safety aspect
I'm thinking twin 40s for that 1/2 throttle goal. 4cycle is more fule efficient. you might check this site for the best fuel economy, pricy though.
Picking a hull is dependent on lots of factors

How much does the boat weigh???? That is kind of important, What type of water, river with current ot lake. I have been doing this for 9 years and I would not go ANY less than 50 4 strokes and possibly more 30" of draft on a pontoon HB is ALOT.

Sorry' I meant to indicate a 30"diameter log 45' long.
it appears the average is about 50% submerged. It seems that a pontoon or catamaran would move easier, at least at the lower speeds, than a semi-vee conventional houseboat hull. But the problem is I really havre nothing to back up that assumption. In my shopping, It seems that most hulls 45'X13'+/-get about 1-2 mpg. I was trying to find out if a pontoon/catamaran would be moore efficient with the same propulsion hp.
