Fiberglass Repair Houseboat 2 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello all. Just new to this forum & could use some advice. Last summer we aquired a 32' houseboat. Needed some work. I repaired the front & back top decks with bondo, primer & paint. This was over plywood. Worked good but it has cracked. Would like to fiberglass over this when it warms up. Don't have any idea what kind of fiberglass to use or  how to prepare surface now that I have it painted.  The boat now sets alongside our pond in the back yard. A nice little get away & I want it to last. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks very much,Mike & Barb

Hey Mike and Barb, I see this is an old post but have you done your fiberglass work yet? If not, what type of boat do you have?

Hello Tonka.  The houseboat is a old home made one that we picked up at a sale. Front & back top decks are plywood. I want to put fiberglass on them but don't know just how to go about it. Sounds like a job. Thanks for the reply,Mike

Hey Mike, actually I don't think it would be nearly as bad since you don't have to remove any old fiberglass, but your plywood is going to have to be dry and clean before you can glass over it. Go to fiberglassics.com. It's a forum like this, but it's specifically old fiberglass boats and they are Realy knowledgable and eager to to help you with repair or construction. I had members send me videos and pictures to help me with my repairs. They're not houseboat people, but they are fiberglass experts. Hope this helps.
