My boat is a 1973 15x50 Burns Craft Houseboat. In the forward V Berth area the original fiberglass is GREEN in color. The condition of this original is absolutely perfect with no scratches but it is GREEN and that GREEN must go. I want to end up with any color but GREEN. I want to put some type of outer covering on that GREEN and I am seeking information as to what are my options.
My question is: What is the best or suitable finish coat to apply to the inside of the V Berth area? And what is the best method of applying that material? I have considered paint with house paint but that will rub off. I also thought about painting it with fiberglass without the fiber. I have considered spray painting and I have that equipment available. Also have considered roller and that might add a little texture and that would be good. I do not like a smooth finish and if given a choice I would rather have a texture look.
Please advise on the finish coating and method.
Regards, Richard in the California Delta and the San Francisco Bay

Most of the available marine paints will work, as well as automotive enamals. (with hardener) Spraying is a good way to go but for interior work you really need to use an electrostatic unit because of the overspray problem. A roller will give a good finish and if you tip it out with a soft brush you can get almost spray quality.
If you like a little texture mix in a little Interlux anti-skid compound. This material is polymeric spheres and depending on concentration will give a soft to medium texture. Best thing about this is that if you don't like it later you can sand it smooth.
Another possibility is spatter or texture paint from Sherwin Williams. It comes in spray cans and provides a lot of options. We used this material as accents on some of our products and it holds up really well. Kind of pricy though.
When using anything other than latex ventilation is paramount. Be careful.
