Can anyone help me find some simple wooden pontoon plans, using 2x2's/2x4's and plywood. I'm thinking 24"wide x 36" tall. Roughly 24-28 feet long. I'm building a house on the pontoons, so I need them to carry quite a bit of weight.

If anyone knows of a _link_ to some good plans, please post them. Thanks,

Plywood is not a good pontoon material. You would be wasting time and money.

You can buy _meta_l pontoons already made up.

best plans i'v seen was in a book called the "adventures of tom sawyer" might get a copy and duplicate that raft. certainly looks simple and cheap to me. now about the 24" x 36" tall is this raft for dwarf's ?

Hi. I have purchased a 36 ft. long houseboat and the pontoons are 2 x 4's with styrofoam billets inside. They are encased in 1/4 inch mahogony plywood and painted. The boat needs to be taken out of the water for the winter as we live in northern Ontario Canada and the ice can damage the pontoons. The pontoons measure 24 in. wide by 30 in. tall. They carry the 20 ft. cabin very well with the pontoons just 12 in. below the waterline. So never mind the naysayers, many boats up here have been built like this and have served their owners very well for many, many years. Although the plywood has to be repainted or repaired once in a while, it is a very effective and cost efficient way to support a houseboat. Best regards, Lance.

I build it one, just to see how it would go. a 4' X 3' x 3' using 5/8" plywood, Stillness steel screw.

It took 2 1/2 sheet ($ 15)

10 2" x 4" (8') ( $ 1.50)

screw ($ 30)

up to $ 85

Then I fugued $ 100 for fiberglass

then i fugued $ 150 for foliation

Two days building it !
