Plastic Decking?? 2 Years, 4 Months ago

Hi! I've got a 6 year old boat that has some soft spots on the decking material...I'm trying to find out if there is a plastic sheet (plywood-type) deck material I can use to replace it and never have to do it again! I've seen some very high end new boats with plastic decking, but don't know where it came from...also, I figure that even if it's less rigid than marine-grade ply (which I'm sure it will be) I can use galvanized hangers and 2x4 or 2x6 pressure treat to add support underneath....
any ideas????
I really appreciate any help!

Sherm, welcome. What brand, model, year boat do you have? Shouldnt have soft spots after only 6 years.
Please fill out your profile.

Sherm, you are talking about starboard. It's expensive but supposedly similar to plywood in rigidity, workability, etc.

Never use pressure treated on a boat as it will break before it gives. Use oak and treat it with Cupinol wood preservative from Home depot. They used it on most wood boats in the good old days. pirate38948.8058912037
