OK, I've got a stupid question I'm putting a 1974 Kingscraft with two inboard 225HP engines into salt water. I know about that electrolysis thing I have to do but I need to know if my engines are cooled with antifreeze and fresh water or not. Does anyone know? I have the original brochures for this boat but they do not say. Thanks

I would tend to doubt if the boat has a cooling water heat exchanger. it might be possible if the previous owners re-engined and did it. If you have a heat exchanger most likely when you look at the engines you should see something like a pressure cap like on a car radiator if you don't see one then most likely you get your engine cooling water from the lake/sea. If you don't have it you can retro fit the engines to have a closed water cooling system. Saltwater in an engine really shortens it life unless you freshwater flush after every use - in my opinion - more trouble than it is worth.

KINGSCRAFT HOUSEBOATS WERE ALL RAW WATER COOLED. IF YOUR GOING TO USE IT IN SALT INSTALL FRESH WATER COOLING KITS. ALSO SUGGEST YOU COALTAR EPOXY THE BOTTOM OF THE BOAT. PAY ATTENTION TO THE INSIDE OF THE SHAFT LOGS AND INTAKE AND DRAIN NIPPLES ALSO.
