Fiberglass deck repair 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm getting ready to repair the aft deck on my 1975 42 ft. Gibson. I'll be trying to match the existing finish to hide the repaired places as best as possible. Does anyone know if Gibson used gelcoat on these decks to get the white color, or did they just paint the fiberglass with something after it was laid? I haven't made these repairs yet so if anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I know several people who have repaired the decks on there gibsons and they all have been successful in re-applying "the dots", on dripped it on with w paint brush( good for small areas ) the others used a "pump-up" pressure tank with a home made wand sealed on the end and with small holes in it. the pumped up the tank and dripped it on the decks. This took alot of pratice on some painted plywood and the paint has to be thick enough to "bead" on the deckbut still flow through sprayer. If done right you can"t tell it from the factory finish.

A bad day working on your boat still beats a good day at work!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Millertyme, that's exactly how I'll do it. I couldn't figure out how I was going to get that dripped look with gelcoat.
