Rail Maintenence 1 Year, 4 Months ago

Hi all, I have a 87 Gibson 50' houseboat. It is in excellent shape.
The boat club I belong to has a member who had a similar boat. He had major issues with rot which he believes was caused by his rails. He has advised me to remove every rail section every year to caulk. This is a whole lot of work. Looking at my rails they seem solid, but now I wonder if it is safe to go by looks alone. To remove all of the rails every years seems way obsessive to me ... but what is a proper maintenence schedule for doing this. I'm obviously new at this (I've boated for 20+ years but this is my first houseboat) and I want to do all I can to avoid rot issues down the road. Thanks, Orp

Check every year and rebed any loose. If it aint broke don't fix it. Taking a screw out of wood every year would not be a good idea.
