I'm new to this forum and need some advice in the worst way. Just bought a 1971 RQ-43'. Didn't know to get a survey first, etc. :o( Lots of hull rust, back deck over the engines need support, a 2-ft. section of the keel is missing in the front storage area! I wanted to and did believe the guy when he assured me it was structurally sound and ran great. Ready to retire from teaching special education and I'm empathizing with how my kids must feel. My initial investment was modest but I'm questioning what it will take to keep it from sinking.
Most Desperately,
Cindy

This guy took advantage of a newbie. He now doesn't have to pay dockage or disposal costs and you even paid him for it. WOW!!! You will also have to pay any costs associated if it sinks. Have you by any chance been able to get insurance of any kind??
Part of keel missing? don't understand? The keel on a RQ is an integral part of the hull of the boat, not an add on. You need someone knowledgeable to look at this thing.
If I were you I would try to get your money back, if your unsucessful seek the advice of council but don't count on any relief as most sales of this type are as is where is.

If your luck is like mine, then the answers to OHB are all "no". So develop a plan. Keep it afloat! (above all) Change your status AND way of thinking, NOW. You are "restoring". Your happiness is important to your kids, so they will help out. Everyone makes mistakes and yours of trusting ,is a most noble one. A fine person you must be. You are lucky! RQs are steel, so repairs are cheap & easy (compaired to other materials). People who can weld are common. From highschooll tech programs, guys doing side jobs for cash, retired or disabled welders or someone into boaring with a little pity for what befell you. The marina operator does not want the hassle of raising a boat off the bottom, so he will work with you in hauling the boat out. Get your haggling shoes on! Get your ducks in a row and try not to waste anyones time or effort. Plan, plan, plan. You are not a victim here! This is an opportuinity to refurbish, learn & KNOW everything about the home you are now "restoring" Attitude is everything, so take your lemon & make lemonaid!

I had a marine welder from R & R Marine in Louisville come and look at the RQ today. He was honest and said he wouldn't take my money. After he explained that there wasn't enough good steel to weld to and it would be a constant money pit, then the tears start to roll. It's currently in the lot of Kentuckiana Yacht Sales. The guy who took me for this tumultuous ride is a former employee of theirs and has the storage paid until July 9. Anyway, I'm contacting them to see if they'll do the right thing since he assured me it was structually sound and ran good, etc. If not, then it's off to my attorney. I appreciate the feedback.
$5000 in the hole from what I didn't know,
Cindy

So sorry it is that far gone Cindy. Ex-employee huh. Wonder when his last check was dated. After you bought the boat lets hope. They had to know this thing was a dog. They should not have let him sell the boat from their lot, as this act alone lent a air of security to your dealings with him. "Implied reputable sale" Yes good luck! & tell how it goes from time to time.

Go see Shaw he owns it. tell him you are going to the newspaperes and better business bureau if it was theirs and not the salesmans personal boat. Kentuckyanna cannot afford to have a customer like you bad mouthing and generaly running them down. See Shaw, I cannot think of his first name.
