[i]I am very interested in a 73 model 43', that has been gutted and remodeled. however there is a small rise/slope on the starbard side flooring past the galley in the living area about 10 inches from the wall. the oner says this is for draining?, and all nautalines have this. is this true?

[i]please advise

No this is not true. It has a cracked or rotted stringer. Check closely. I have seen several like this. look out as the transum will more than likely be rotten also.

See answers on threads below this one. RUN RUN RUN !!!!!!

Read all the Nautiline posts,

The owner is right in one respect a lot of old Nautalines have this problem. However, drainage is the best reason I've heard of yet.I'll remember that.

[i]sounds like all these old boats have this problem, the boat is great other than the hump, how do you get around this cheaply but surely? can anyone fix "the stringers"?

I beg to differ on the bad stringer advice, both me and my father have owned 43 nautalines, and have 2 friends who own 43 nautalines(one bought new in june of 1975) and they all have this small slope to the starboard.A former nautaline dealer from Cinti told the friend who bought new that this was for drainage in the event of a water leak in the kitchen area, this would prevent flooding the lower level floor. The bathroom doesn't need this because the whole bathroom is a sealed pan. P.S. I have seen this in some 47 harbormasters also.

A few years ago a Nautaline transom and stringer job was in the area of $5000. Most old Nautalines that still exist today have had or need stringer, transom, deck and roof rot repair work.

The problem normally progresses to humping of the floor in the galley area. Also shows up in other brands but Chris Craft and Nautaline are the most prominant offenders.

People will often sell these things cheap or even give them away to avoid storage/dockage fees and disposal costs.

Anybody considering an old Nautaline should read both pages of this thread.

Just about a year ago we were in the same boat as you guys. We had decided to try and get a houseboat and found a really nice Nautiline for sale at a local dock.
Owner took us out for a nice late winter/early spring cruise. Very recently updated interior, exterior looked wellkept, engines cranked and ran nicely. I did notice an unusual hump in the floor near the galley. It was so pronounced that the closet door scrubbed it when opened.
I came to the forum and got the same story you did from these guys but I thought no way... we really want this boat. I got someone from the local marine shop to go look at it with me just to be sure. Well the first poke into the transom with the screwdriver went to the hilt. In a matter of moments he found 3 out of 4 stringers rotten and they told me they could fix it for about 6K.
Of course we took a pass and soon found a 76 Burnscraft with solid structure but in need of some interior sprucing up. I can tell you the tab for that was much less than the transom/stringer estimate we got. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Well as the owner of the marina where the Nautaline factory demos were, as well as being the local dealer. the slope is correct but the hump is not. I have seen many of them. I was also a Nautaline by Nautacraft dealer. I repair them frequently.
