THE KINGSCRAFT WAS FIRST PRODUCED BY THE KINGSFORD CHARCOAL COMPANY. THE ORIGINAL PEOPLE WERE INFLUENCED BY PLUCKEBAUM (AS WERE MARINETTE).
IN THE EARLY 70s THE OPERATION WAS MOVED TO FLORENCE ALABAMA INTO A PLANT VACATED BY THE DEFUNCT SEA GOING COMPANY. AFTER A FEW YEARS THE COMPANY WAS SOLD TO A MR. LAZZARA AND MOVED INTO A NEW FACILITY IN THE FLORENCE INDUSTRIAL PARK. MR. LAZARRA DIED IN THE EARLY 90s AND THE COMPANY CLOSED.
THE KINGSCRAFT COMPANY BUILT HOUSEBOATS, CRUISERS, AND MILITARY CRAFT. THE HOUSEBOATS WERE PRIMARILY BUILT IN 36, 44, 47, 48, AND 55 FOOT LENGTHS. THE MOST POPULAR WAS THE 44. THE KINGS CRAFT WAS AND IS A SUPER BOAT.
AS THESE BOATS AGE THEY ARE BEING REBUILT TO NEW CONDITION BY MANY OWNERS. BEING ALUMINUM THEY DON'T SUFFER FROM THE WOODEN FRAMING ROT PROBLEMS OF GLASS BOATS. THE CONSTRUCTION WAS VERY STRONG AND THEY HAVE CLASSIC GOOD LOOKS. THE ONLY THING TO LOOK OUT FOR IS BOTTOMS THAT HAVE BEEN ERODED BY STRAY CURRENT. EVEN THIS IS REPAIRABLE BY REPLACEMENT OF THE DAMAGED PANELS.

During the time Kingsford owned it we built a 75 ft. custom boat for the Cheramie Brothers in Golden Meadow,La. It was the largest boat built in the Shoals area. It took us two years and three months from the day we started to the day we launced it...It was something to see..

Stray current or electrolysis is mainly caused from poor or improper electrical current passing from the shore power thru the water and ethcing on to the bottom. Most marinas are noted for poor wiring and inferior hook ups. This will cause the hull bottom to have the look of acne on the skin. Be sure you know the marina where you tie up and spend time. It is very common and the anodes on the hull transom and bottom will take the main source and they will need to be inspected often.

Know your marina, put galvanic isolators on both AC legs, keep your wiring (especially DC) from being wet, keep your annodes up.

Mr. Charles Osborne purchased the Company from Kingsford and operated it for 6 years and then sold it to Mr. Lazzara. After he moved it to another Smaller location he began to cut the quality by taking short cuts and using cheaper materail The Quaility was no longer there. The skilled production personnel we had began to loose interest and they left for other employment. lazzara's health began to fail and he lost interest and the era of the Aluminum Houseboat Production in Florence, Al. died. At one time this was the Best Quality Houseboat on the market and still today it is sought after by the true House Boaters. The Kingsford Charcoal Company was owned By Clorox Bleach in Oakland, Ca. they also owned several other companies such and Nesbit,Scott USA, Farragot (makeers of leather products for horse use) and several Mush Room companies. They wanted out of the Houseboat business and Mr. Osborne was employed with Clorox at the time and he saw the long range growth for this type business and he purchase it.
