Written by eIke, on 13-11-2007 19:36 Interesting. I had an encounter with this community back in 1978. I investigated a houseboat fire in the 79th street marina. Seems the boat owner (a single day) had put the kids to bed for the night and settled down on the sofa for a little fun with his girlfriend, when she looked up at the ceiling and said "what's that light" Turns out it was the reflection of the fire on the water. The side of the boat was on fire. It started from a leaking propane hose and was ignited by the furnace (this was December and the temp was below freezing. The contributing factors were the propane tanks were those big ones that have to be lifted with a forklift and they were on the dock. The lines were strung from the dock to the boat and own the side to where it entered the boat near the furnace. It wasn't secured and swing in the wind and eventually chafed through the hose. If that wasn't enough alot of the shore power lines were hanging the water. The fire department ahd a field day issuing citations. |
