Transom Day

Well tomorrow is the day. The humidity will be low, temps mild and everything is in place to install the transom of the 69 Sea Camper.  I remember; it was this time last year we pulled that thing out of the lake and many of my friends said,    ".....Your pretty good at this stuff Heather but I think you're fighting a lost cause on this one".
I too at times had my doubts as to if this project would make it to the rebuilding stage. But here we are, and it's all up from here.
My AC grade Russian Birch came today by truck and I have it in the wood shop under armed guard on it's side in hopes to keep it true till morning. Wow folks, It's clean with no voids and smooth as polished glass. I've had the propane heater going in the boat all day while under the tarp to get the moisture and relative humidity in there as low as I can. That's causing the Southern Heart Pine Stringers to turn a beautiful copper color. This part should go as fast as I have the money to keep up with the supply needs. I am still hoping to put a Diesel in it, but I now have a 350 Vortec on stand by. Since I have the Volvo Penta Drive from the 1978 SeaCamper this will be the option if I can't get a good diesel and drive by time I am set to fit the engine. I am so tickled I can't sleep with the anticipation of knowing that tomorrow the Transom and Stringers will be finalized. The remainder is going to be basic carpentry, electrical and mechanical. If all goes well, I cut and dry fit everything and perhaps by late afternoon the most mysterious part of a boat restoration will be complete.

God Bless you All..Heather.

I just found House boating World and have started a blog on a 2 year ongoing project. It's the epic saga of the rescue, recovery and restoration of a rare 1969 Bourm Boats Sea Camper.Boat#23

There is a houseboat for every kind of group and budget imaginable...here are tips for putting together the perfect group from houseboats.com!

1. Family & Extended Family
Some people have a large enough family that they can fill a boat with family members, which can be a lot of fun and can create some really meaningful experiences among siblings and/or cousins. If children are of varying ages, you may want to consider allowing them to invite friends as it may increase their enjoyment of the trip. You might just decide to make it an annual reunion, as many people do.
2. A Group of Friends
Inviting a group of all single adults (which can be all male or all female), or adult couples, can be loads of fun. Enjoying the water by day and a lively card or board games in the evening are some of the favorite activities of our guests.
3. A Group of Co-workers
Inviting your friends from work can build bonds beyond the workplace and create memories you love to reminisce about when you return to the drudgery of your job! Think of inviting a group of colleagues with their families, or an entire department from your workplace.
4. Two or Three Unrelated Families
Often great friends make a tradition out of an annual houseboating trip together. Their children have lasting memories, and the adults have fun, too. There are no limits to who you might invite, and many times your friends might bring their friends and new friendships are formed!
5. Four Legged Companions
We welcome pets on most of our houseboats. Pets are part of the family and find houseboating and exploring the shoreline extremely fun.
