Newbie and Nautiline 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago

Well here I am again asking wisdom from ye ole wise ones.
I have found a 1969 35' Nautiline with fiberglass hull that needs a little TLC. 140 mercruiser was rebuilt in 1992. Owner states they only take her out about once a year and that last outing was in May 09. Owner states that Onan generator needs tuned up because it is surging when running.
States bottom and stringers are all in good shape.
He says that he will entertain any reasonable offer on this boat. What would you think that a reasonable offer if the boat passes survey?
Any thing I should know specific or should ask about this particular boat?
Thanks for all of your help guys I appreciate it more than you know.
PS I also have a steel bottom that I am looking at that I will post seperate form this one.
Thanks Again,
Clay

You have read the Newbie bargan boat warning in the stickies in this section, read it again, and also the Nautaline forum in the classics section below.
It's next to impossible to put a value on a boat that old, with out inspecting it in person. Most project boats start out at a negative value. There are some boats out there that are worth fixing but not many that are that old. Your surveyor would be best qualified to put a value on it.
Stringers and transom in good shape are a plus. However, decks, hatches, roof, areas under windows, area under slider in back, etc. are all suspect for rot.
Generator surging is not a big problem and is fixable.
What is the asking price?
Reread my opinion on steel boats in the Newbie warning post.
Strongly urge you to look for an aluminum boat. KingsCraft or Marrinet are top choices.

If the transum and stringers are good which would be very unusual You may be able to fix her up. I believe you are trying to get in as many do with a minimal outlay. If so that leaves aluminum boats out. The boat could be worth it passes survey from $2500.00 to 8500.00 depending on options. i doubt it has a bridge as they were few scatter and far in between. Let us know what equipment it has and I will give you a ballpark figure. Good luck
